Surrounded by her new colleagues on the federal
bench, Consuelo M. Callahan was sworn in on
September 18 as the newest judge of the Ninth Circuit. Members
of the federal and state bench, Judge Callahan’s friends and
family, and members of the legal community filled the
ceremonial courtroom at the United States Courthouse in
Sacramento to its capacity for the investiture. The ceremony
was televised by closed circuit feed to a courtroom on the
fourteenth floor that was also filled to capacity. Before
Chief Judge Mary M. Schroeder administered the oath of
office to Judge Callahan, attendees heard remarks about Judge
Callahan from Tim Hopkins of the American Bar
Association, Third District Court of Appeal Presiding Justice
Arthur Scotland, retired Third District Court of Appeal
Presiding Justice Robert Puglia, McGeorge School of Law
Dean Elizabeth Rindskopf Parker, District Judge
Morrison England, and Albert Ellis, an attorney
with the firm of Hakeem, Ellis &
Marengo.
